As many of you know, the brilliant landlord at the Lamb, Alec, who has been so welcoming -- and who has in fact turned the Lamb into a real music venue during his time there -- is leaving at the end of February. He doesn't yet know who will be taking over as landlord, so we'll have to wait and see whether or not our session can continue there. For the time being, we are not planning to meet in March. More news as we know it.
It's been ages since we did any tunes in C, and some of us have been wanting to play some of these great tunes so let's give it a go in September, right at the beginning of the session for those who want to.
Some possibilities: - Billy in the Lowground - Wagoner One-Step - Texas Gals - Cranberry Rock - Hogskin - Farewell Trion Suggest more tunes here in the comments! Let's see if this works. If we start getting too many offers of fake Nikes from China again, I'll have to close it down but it would be nice to have an interactive place where we can propose tunes and things, and I think this should serve that purpose if we all use the Comments function.
So, to start the ball rolling, I'll admit I can't remember any of the tunes we said last month we'd definitely learn for this time! But we have in the past spoken of Squirrel Hunters and Half-Past Four, so maybe have a go this week.... We've had this nice email from Martin, who joined us from quite a long way away on Wednesday.
==================================================== Hi team, Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed meeting and playing with you all last evening. I have been intending to come down to your session for the last 3 years and last night I actually made it. You have some nice tunes to play and I hope I will be able to come and play some of them with you again in the near future. In the meantime, I wish you all a Merry Xmas and best wishes for the new year. Martin We've moved the session. Despite a good year or so, and quite a favourable response from the punters at times, it would seem it doesn't really fit with the more restaurant-like dining experience which the pub is going for, and in any case there's a new landlord now. We were made very welcome at The Lamb for the Lewes Folk Festival night in October and we're now going to try out the acoustic in the side room which is more contained and we should be able to hear each other! |
